Las Vegas gets $5 million grant to protect city from terror attacks

Posted

Las Vegas has been awarded a $5 million grant, an increase of $2.13 million from last year, to protect the city from terror attacks.

The grant is through the Urban Areas Security Initiative program within the Department of Homeland Security. The money will go toward helping urban areas build infrastructure and train personnel to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism.

Both Sen. Dean Heller and Congresswoman Dina Titus have asked for the formula to be reconfigured in order to direct more federal funds to Las Vegas as it is a major tourism city, which FEMA doesn’t currently account for in its risk profile formula.
