A valley woman is mourning the loss of her dog after she said it was attacked by another dog at a Summerlin park.

Thursday was just the second time Juliet Nguyen had been back to Summerlin Centre Community Park, located near Town Center and Sahara Avenue.

"I've been back here the other day and I kind of just sit in my car and cry," Nguyen said. "It just sucks."

Her visit two weeks ago was the last time she took her Chihuahua, Yoda, to that park.

"At first I was so angry," Nguyen said. "And now, after she passed away, I'm just more sad."

Nguyen said she was walking Yoda on her leash, when a big dog not on a leash came running toward them. She said Yoda had several cuts and bruises, but got worse and died several days later.

According to the city of Las Vegas, any animal outside of the confines of a fence or enclosure on your property should be on a leash. In the last 13 months, the city gave 155 citations to people violating that ordinance.

"It's just sad that my little dog had to die for people to realize that you have to keep your dog on a leash at the park," said Nguyen. "That's what the rules are here for."
