A valley father is dead after police say his mentally disturbed son snapped inside the family garage.

It happened around 5:30 PM Wednesday evening at a home in the 1100 block of Plantation Court, near Charleston Blvd and Tenaya Way.

Neighbors say this isn't the first time they've heard the young man arguing with his father and add that cops have been called to the address multiple times in the past.

While police aren't verifying whether this was the first domestic violence call to the address, they did say the son has a history of mental illness.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the boy, who is under 18,  has been detained and is cooperating, but was unresponsive when they first arrived on scene, his body next to his father's in the garage.

A neighbor told Action News she could see everything from her window and while police aren't commenting on the nature of the father's injuries, she says she could see the man was stabbed to death. It's left her visibly shaken after recently giving birth herself.

"I'm a little emotional, just having a kid and seeing that life can go just instantly. The fact that it's a father-son situation is just shocking because whatever happened there, it didn't seem like it could have reached a point where they could take someone's life," said Jermy Elkhechan.

Police say it was a call from the boy's mother asking for a welfare check that led them to the scene; apparently she couldn't get in touch with either her ex-husband or her son and called requesting help.

Police say the juvenile could be charged as an adult.
