UPDATE: Child hit by car while riding bike has broken bones, no life-threatening injuries

UPDATE AT 5:15 P.M.

Police say the child hit by the car has broken bones, but otherwise his injuries are not life-threatening. They also don't believe that the driver was under the influence.

Officials are still investigating to see if speed was a factor in this crash. 

Roads near Tomahawk Drive and Silver Springs Parkway are back open.

ORIGINAL STORY

An 8-year-old on a bike was hit by a car while the child was in the crosswalk, according to Henderson police.

The collision happened around 2:17 p.m. at the intersection of Tomahawk Drive and Silver Springs Parkway.

Officials say the juvenile sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Due to the severity of the child's injuries, streets near the area will be closed as police investigate what happened.

Officials say that the driver is at the scene and is cooperating.
