So many Las Vegans have been working hard helping our city heal.

Health care workers at University Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital were formally recognized Friday.

Several politicians and community leaders spoke to express their gratitude.

Jacqueline Rodriguez, a certified nursing assistant at Sunrise, was one of the employees to accept a plaque on behalf of her hospital that read "Saving Lives, Vegas Strong."

"We always wish that we could just save everyone and it's an impossible feat but we still stood up against the odds and we did everything in our power and we saved as many people as we could," Rodriguez said.

Lawrence Weekly, the chair of the University Medical Center Board of Trustees, used a hip hop reference to say the hospital proved itself to the world this week.

"In the words of Biggie [Smalls]: If you don't know, now you know," Weekly said.

Candles for each life lost were lit as a symbol of hope, and lines to donate blood formed after the ceremony.
