A new grant is expected to help more than 560 families in Southern Nevada afford down payments on new homes.

NeighborhoodLIFT offers up to $7,500 in grant money that homeowners can use toward down payments.

It's offered through Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada with the help of Wells Fargo.

NeighborhoodLIFT launched in the Las Vegas area in March. So far, nearly 40 families have been able to benefit from it.

"If it wasn't for that program, we would've put more money down out of our pockets or tried to get more money to borrow from people," said Ismael Solorio, who picked up the keys to his new home Friday.

The goal is to serve 566 families over a time span of 2 to 3 years, according to Michelle Merced, executive director of Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada.

"It's just a matter of making sure that we can get this money out to everyone that needs it," Merced said.
