LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Friday was the first-day CCSD canceled school due to snow, leaving parents and guardians wondering what to do with their children.

The district said canceling classes and after-school activities Friday was due to potential freezing conditions on the roads in the morning.

One student who attended Boys and Girls Club on Friday said missing school made him sad.

"Whenever I go to school, I feel happy inside because I get to like more education," he said.

The Boys and Girls Club on Lindell Road was almost at full capacity with more than 200 children.

As word got out that school would be closed Friday, the staff at the club said they were quick to tell as many parents as possible.

One child told 13 Action News her parents were upset because Thursday should have been canceled.

"My parents were kind of upset because like since it was snowing yesterday, they could have canceled school," she said.

A father picking up his child at the Boys and Girls Club said if the club program was available, so should schools.

"Honestly their kids in Minnesota and other states they go to school in the snow all the time, so a little bit of snow comes here and you don't cancel school," he said.

Attendance for Clark County schools on Thursday was at 74 percent, while Wednesday had 97 percent - as a significant drop was seen between the days.
