Firefighters battled a fire at 1424 South 3rd Street around 4:18 p.m Sunday.

Officials say the burning structure was an abandoned restaurant that was converted into a homeless camp.

Firefighters had the flames under control in about 30 minutes. The fire caused $50,000 in damages to the attic and roof of the building.

The property has had two previous fires in recent years. A motel on the property burned on July 12, 2014, then again on Dec. 26, 2015. Squatters are believed to have been responsible for both fires. The motel has since been demolished. Only the restaurant building remains.

The fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
