Details emerge in death of man hit by truck while crossing Desert Inn

At 7:25  p.m. on  Nov.  20, a truck struck a pedestrian in a wheelchair on E. Desert Inn, near Topaz Road.

Evidence at the scene and a witness statement say the pedestrian in the wheelchair was crossing several lanes of traffic on Desert  Inn Road,  outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was hit by a 2003 Cadillac Escalade truck traveling east on Desert Inn Road.

The driver of the Cadillac came to a stop and remained on the scene. The pedestrian in the wheelchair was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Cadillac displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

The pedestrians death marks the 117th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for the year 2017.
