There's a brand new opportunity for students to attend the College of Southern Nevada tuition-free, and the deadline to apply is quickly approaching.

High school students graduating in May of 2018 will be the first students eligible to apply for The Nevada Promise Scholarship.

The scholarship is part of a law passed just this year. The law aims to make community colleges across the state more accessible and affordable for students under age 20.

The legislature set aside money to help qualifying students pay for mandatory fees and tuition that aren't covered under other kinds of financial aid.

"For some students it would signify that they wouldn't have to pay for the community college. For others, it depends on where they fall," said Maria Marinch, the NV Promise Program Leader for the College of Southern Nevada.

CSN is the only public, community college in the Las Vegas valley. So far, CSN has collected more than 1,000 applications for the scholarship, according to Marinch.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is October 31. More information about qualifications and the application process can be found here.
