After initial reports came in on Thursday of an abandoned toddler at the Fremont Street Experience, further investigation revealed that the child was never abandoned in the first place.

According to Las Vegas police, the 2-year-old girl was in the care of her mother's friend when city marshals arrived at the scene. When the mother returned, she was arrested on unrelated charges.

The toddler was severely sunburned, so she was taken to the hospital. Marshals recognized the same toddler from Wednesday and at that time noticed bruises on her. It is unclear how marshals came in contact with the child on Wednesday.

After being released from the hospital, the toddler was put into protective custody. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Abuse and Neglect Detail is investigating the case.
