UPDATE: Police have arrested 22-year-old Daron Clanton in connection with the shooting death of his 54-year-old father, who was identified as Kevin Clanton.

One other person was home at the time of the shooting. Clanton was arrested on an open murder charge. He is currently being held at the Henderson Detention Center.

A coworker and friend of Clanton tells Action News his arrest is shocking.

"I didn't know he was a violent person at all," said the man who did not give his name. "Every time I've seen him at work he's really, really happy."

Neighbors said the Clanton family has lived in the community since the early 1990s.

At one time, the father worked at a law library, said residents.

Police had never been called to the home before for a domestic disturbance call.

A woman who lives nearby said she heard a loud fight followed by one gunshot on Monday.

Friends tell Action News they plan to be in court tomorrow for the 22-year-old's arraignment.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man is dead following a shooting in Henderson late Monday morning.

Henderson police said it stemmed from a domestic dispute. Police received the call around 11:30 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of Painted Pony Drive, near Whitney Ranch Drive and Patrick Lane. Dispatch received a call from someone inside the home witnessing a dispute.

"At this point, this is the first homicide we've had in the year," says Michelle French with Henderson Police Department.  "This is an unusual occurrence, last year we had four homicides total."

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Clark County coroner.
