A man was arrested on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful imprisonment, and kidnapping on Feb. 4 near Wikieup, Arizona.

Around 3:32 p.m., Mohave County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Burro Creek Campgrounds where they met up with two male kayakers.

The men said they were kayaking in a group of four down Burro Creek when they heard a gunshot and saw an elderly man standing on the bank of the river with a large silver gun. The elderly man, later identified as 66-year-old Danny Eugene Button, shot four more times at the men. The lead kayaker paddled away as fast as he could while the other three were ordered out of the water at gunpoint.

Button told the kayakers that they were trespassing on his property and forced them to walk back to the campgrounds. He was arrested later that night around 10:45 p.m. and booked into the Mohave County jail.

The fourth kayaker was found the next day in good health around 10:30 a.m. about 7-8 miles south of the Burro Creek Campgrounds.

Deputies say that property owners do not have the rights to the waterways in Arizona.
