PAHRUMP (KTNV) — Authorities responded to an attempted kidnapping of a child near the Pahrump library earlier this week.

The Nye County Sheriffs Office reported a man tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into his van on Tuesday night at about 6:30 p.m. near the public library.

The victim was able to run away from the suspected kidnapper who attempted to chase after him, according to police.

Deputies were then called to the boy’s house after he made it home and told his mother about the situation.

The suspect was described by police as a white male adult with a multi-colored beard while driving a white van with damaged rear windows. He was also last seen wearing a ripped shirt and khaki shorts.

Similar incidents have been reported in nearby Lyon County, but they do not seem related to this incident, according to Nye County authorities.

As a reminder, police say to talk to your children about speaking to strangers and make sure they pay attention to their surroundings.

Anyone with further information on Tuesday's situation was urged to contact NCSO at 775-751-7000.
