The boyfriend of the mother of the 8-year-old boy named Clayton James Singleton, who killed himself with a gun on Oct. 10, will be charged with one felony count of child abuse, neglect or endangerment.

The charge will be filed by the district attorney's office. An investigation revealed that Jeffrey Hamilton kept multiple guns in the home, failed to adequately secure the weapons, and further failed to provide adequate supervision to the children by leaving the young boy home alone with his 5-year-old sister.

Additionally, there was an incident two years ago where the same boy accidentally discharged the same gun that ultimately killed him.

“This is a sad day. A young boy is dead, a family is grieving and nobody wins in a situation like this. However, at the end of the day, there are laws that I am obligated to uphold,” said District Attorney Steve Wolfson. “Parents and guardians have an obligation to protect children, and to keep them from situations where they are in danger. Leaving these children home alone, with loaded weapons that were not properly secured, contributed to this young boy losing his life”.
