Clark County law enforcement are searching for a man wanted in a shooting several weeks ago.

According to the arrest warrant, 24-year-old Jessy Avila severely wounded a man in both legs at an apartment complex during a dispute over an ex-girlfriend.

"This is a guy we want in custody as soon as possible. He's dangerous," Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told 13 Action News. "Most of the people we feature, Steve, are dangerous, but this guy, Jessy Avila in particular, is wanted for battery with use of a deadly weapon. He shot a guy."

Avila is also on the radar of Las Vegas police's gang unit.

"They think he might be in the area of Sandhill and Viking or Tropicana and Nellis," Wolfson said. "because that's where he has frequented and that's the area where this crime was committed."

Avila could be facing 15 years in prison if convicted because he already has a prior felony conviction for a violent crime.

Avila also had a run in with the law last spring when he was arrested and charged with kidnapping. Police said he and another man tortured a woman while they were looking for someone who stole some heroin. The woman escaped and the charges against Avila were later dropped.

Anyone with information on Avila's whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
