LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two weeks of isolation isn't doing wonders for anyone's hair. You can't go to your salon, but some stylists are finding a way to help out. 13 Action News Anchor Kalyna Astrinos showcases the do-it-yourself hairdo.

TIME TO BE INNOVATIVE

"This is for gray coverage," said hairstylist Julia McDow while preparing a color treatment for one of her clients.

The preparation is the easy part, she says. Putting the treatment on her client’s head is where things get tricky.

McDow is not allowed to apply the treatment during the pandemic.

"I feel like, when the entire world has shut down, maybe just maybe, we have to be innovative a little bit." she said.

"We have to think outside the box."

HOME COLOR KIT

That's exactly what she's doing.

McDow is now delivering hair color kits that can be applied at home.

"I’ll bring it to you when you’re ready," she said. "We'll pack it right before we need to go. That way I’m at least keeping them on their formula."

McDow charges clients $50 for the home kit -- about half the price they pay at the salon.

HUGE RESPONSE

"It’s not even about the money at this point," she said. "Just like with any business, if you just cut somebody off, toodaloo. See you in six weeks when this is over."

"That’s kind of a cold feeling," explained McDow. "I would never want my clients to feel coldness from me."

She says the response has been huge. Clients like Lorie Borges just can't wait any longer.

"I had like whitecaps on my head," said Borges.

Borges says rather than the typical phone call, more and more of her business clients are opting for virtual meetings.

"They see me. I see them. And you can really see what’s going on with how I look," she said.

'HELPING ME TO LOOK BETTER'

That's why Borges says, she didn't have to think twice.

"She’s helping me to look better on that little camera on my computer," she said of McDow.

McDow says it's a win-win for everyone. She's staying connected with clients and making a little money doing what she does best, helping people feel good about themselves.

"Looking your best and feeling your best and being confident is everything," said McDow.

"That’s why we have clients to begin with or we’d all walk around with gray hair," she added. "It’s a confidence boost."
