Apps for your smartphone can be very useful. However, they can also be dangerous.
Many people like Tawnya Ortiz use apps that store a lot of personal information including calendars with birthdays of family members and friends, address books with phone numbers and email addresses, and photos of friends and family.
What many people don't realize is that when they download an app, they are also giving developers of that app access to the data that is stored on the user's phone. App developers want that information for marketing purposes.
It's not that hard though to make sure they don't get information that they don't need.
Expert Curt Miller says to do your research before downloading an app. Find out what kind of information it wants access to. And, if it wants too much info, do not download it.
