A special tribute and march was held in downtown Las Vegas Monday night. Firefighters from across Clark County gathered to remember one of the deadliest days for first responders in American history.

Capt. Brett Strong of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said it was an honor to help put together the event each year.

"Our job as Americans is to make sure that we never forget," Strong said. "And make sure that we always rally together."

The show of unity is a collaboration between the city of Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base and several other local fire departments. Strong said it takes a few months to prepare including securing permits for the march.

It was all in honor of the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 while trying to save others.

"The 343 firemen, the New York Police and the great citizens of New York," Strong said. "This is a tribute to them. And this is so we never forget."
