A 5-year-old boy is recovering after nearly drowning at an apartment complex.
Police say the child was swimming at the compound near Nellis Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
Neighbors say the boy suffered a broken rib after CPR was performed.
One woman says security usually patrols the area at night. But they weren't around, and neither was a parent. She wasn't surprised this happened.
"People have been jumping the gate for quite a while," she said.
The child was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Neighbors say a pool monitor was supposed to start on Monday to supervise the area during the daytime. However, the boy was in the water late at night.
