LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The vote was seven to zero, approving a $12.5 million grant to identify improvements needed to keep Clark County School District students, staff and visitors safe.

“We are seeing time and time again and again we are not getting the ratio of share for the amount of students that we have,” says Chris Garvey, trustee member.

The grant would encompass all CCSD operations, including conducting safety audits at the 300 plus schools, seven bus yards, two administrative buildings and police headquarters.

“This is an outside organization that is coming in and saying you need to do this, and you need to do this to make your school safer,” says Sgt. Zinke with CCSDPD.

Once audits are completed, the funding will be used on facility improvements.

All improvements must be completed by June of 2021, which is when the grant ends.
