A wild cat spotted prowling the streets of a Summerlin neighborhood has people on high-alert.

Rikk Reff shared a video on Facebook that shows what appears to be a bobcat walking through a yard near Desert Inn and Red Rock Ranch roads. The cat then stepped onto the street undisturbed by the person filming it.

The video gathered thousands of views.

"A lot of people are very naive as to understanding that these animals are wild and they are only acting instinctively," Reff said.

He said he shared the video to make sure his neighbors keep their pets and kids safe.

"Watch your animals. Keep them on a leash, know where they're at at all times," Reff said.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife suggests if you spot a bobcat in a residential area you should:

  • Avoid approaching or feeding the animal
  • Spray it with a water hose or make loud noises with pots and pans if it won't leave your property
  • Clean up all trash and close all dumpsters
  • Avoid feeding small, wild animals that might become prey for wild cats
