UPDATE AT 3 PM: North Las Vegas police say that a teenager, probably 17 or 18, fell off of a car somehow and was transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, who is 17, left the scene initially but returned and is currently being detained.

A crash in North Las Vegas may be the result of "car surfing."

It happened in the 4400 block of Ferrell, which is near Allen Lane and West Craig Road. Police are asking people to avoid the area.

Car surfing involves a person riding on the outside of a moving vehicle being driven by another person. It has resulted in numerous deaths.

A 16-year-old girl died in August 2015 after she fell off of a car while car surfing outside Durango High School.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
