LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Severe weather made a mess and damage in parts of west Las Vegas.

In Summerlin, residents reported downed trees in a lot of neighborhoods Thursday night.

Strong winds Thursday evening reached close to 60 miles per hour.

Robert Gartin said he was outside with his family and heard a loud thump.

"We always noticed the tree swaying a little bit, but we didn't think this would happen," Gartin said.

Douglas Zeno, the neighbor to the woman who sent the video, said he heard the thump too.

"I'm just glad nobody was hurt in the incident. We get a lot of wind here, but I've never seen a tree fall," Zano said.

Gartin said the tree owner contacted HOA and is thankful the tree in his yard will soon be gone, but in the meantime has some advice.

"You want to have like renters insurance. Any insurance to cover you. When you have something that's damaged beyond your control, you want to be protected," Gartin said.
