LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Many headed toward Mount Charleston to spend the day in the snow while enjoying the beautiful weather conditions today.

However, so many had the same idea, which led to temporary road closures, after it got to full capacity during the day.

"Mount Charleston is not equipped to hold that many people, so we're just trying to accommodate everyone and let everyone have a safe and good time up there. But it really comes down to first come, first serve, “said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Andrea Wellman.

Authorities say the closures lasted at least an hour, leaving many families in their cars, driving back to Las Vegas.

“That kind of stinks, because we just got here. You know, the family and dogs wanted to get out and stretch their legs, so it's disappointing,” said Tony Chapman, while waiting in traffic.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were stationed along the way asking drivers if they had reservations at a mountain business or for proof of residency in the mountain, to let them go through.

For families who arrived early, it was a lovely day, but some still spent quite a bit of time looking for parking

“There was a lot of traffic and they close some parking spaces that were too full, so we had to come around the mountain for around an hour until we found a spot but it's worth it," said Tahila Levy.

Trooper Wellman said that if cars were not parked properly, they could be towed,

If you’re planning on going to the mountain any time soon, try to make a reservation so you can enjoy the snow without too much extra hassle.
