MEXICO (KTNV) — More than 400 miles of the border wall is finished.

Work nearly doubled since the beginning of 2020.

The independent watchdog organization, Project On Government Oversight, points out some sections of the wall have been dramatically more expensive than others.

There's been contractors with questionable political ties and possible flaws in design.

And the Department of Homeland Security hasn't been transparent about costs.

"Just in, over the last year, I've seen it gone from about, I think, what was it 7 billion to 10 billion to 11 billion. And now I think the estimate is about $15 billion dollars." says Scott H. Amey of the general counsel for Project On Government Oversight.

President-elect Biden has said previously no more construction would happen.

Stopping wall construction could end up costing taxpayers more for nothing.

Just in the last few months nearly $800 million in new contracts were awarded for work that hasn't even started yet.
