Before you buy a hoverboard for a loved one for Christmas, you might want to know about this.
New York City has banned the boards on city streets, according to the New York Daily News.
In addition, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says it has received 8 reports of people showing up in an emergency room seeking treatment for injuries associated with the hoverboards.
Brandy Giddings is one of those people. She tore the ligaments in her left ankle as she was trying to get off of one.
Safety experts say that riders should wear a helmet, wrist guards and knee pads. Also, they suggest that riders have someone spot them the first few times they use one of the boards.
