American Eagle stops selling bracelet after social media backlash

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - A viewer reached out to us about a bracelet being sold by American Eagle Outfitters, saying it resembled a shackle and was offensive, so we looked into it.

We printed out a picture of the bracelet, and asked people in person what they thought. Everyone told us they thought it was offensive, or they could see how it would offend someone.

We also posted the picture on social media. That's where we got a different reaction. Multiple posts saying people were being too sensitive, and to get over it. But again, when we asked people in person, everyone had a problem with the bracelet.

We reached out to American Eagle Outfitters and were told that changes are being made. We received this statement from the company:

“We’ve heard and understand the concerns about the bracelet. We apologize and will remove the product from our stores and website.”
