The city of Las Vegas will host a free youth theatre performance for the community, a free country music concert in the park, and a new exhibit of ceramic works during August.

The community is invited to a free performance of “AMANDLA…Power to US!” at The Smith Center for Performing Arts on Aug. 20, at 7 p.m.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Performing & Visual Arts Summer Camp for Kids, the youth participating in this summer’s camp at the West Las Vegas Arts Center will perform the show.

Appropriate for all ages, admission is free, but a ticket is required to attend the performance. Call 702-749-2000 for tickets.

Written by Trinity Smith and Lablaque Williams, this musical production of “Amandla… Power to Us!”, performed by youth and for youth, delves into the minds of young people in search of social justice and personal truths through dance, music and spoken word, focusing on the events of the 1976 youth uprising in Soweto, South Africa.

The performance is sponsored by the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and the Las Vegas Library District Foundation, and is made possible, in part, by a Clark County Outside Agency Grant, the NV Energy Foundation and community support. For more information, call 702-229-4800.

Contemporary country music band GHOSTLIGHT will perform a free concert for all ages Saturday, Aug. 27, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Lorenzi Park at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, located at 720 Twin Lakes Drive.

This venue has lawn seating; bring low-back lawn chairs or blankets to be more comfortable. Food and beverages will be available for purchase for cash. Call 702-229-3514 or visit www.artslasvegas.org for details.

The public is invited to meet artist KD Matheson and see his exhibition of recent ceramic works in the Grand Gallery at City Hall Thursday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. during the free artist’s reception. Located at 495 S. Main St., the free exhibit is available Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed holidays and weekends).
