Firefighters responded to a fire at the Calypso Apartments on 6501 Vegas Drive, near Torrey Pines Drive at 12:20 a.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were coming out the window of a second story apartment of a two-story apartment building. Firefighters entered the apartment and had the fire under control in less than five minutes.
The fire was confined to the bedroom of the apartment. The bedroom was gutted, the rest of the apartment had smoke damage.
Three adults and five children live in the apartment and were able to escape without injury. They said their smoke alarm alerted them to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
