UPDATE: Man identified in Thursday homicide

Police are investigating a homicide.

It was reported around 6:12 p.m. on Thursday near Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue.

The victim died from gunshot wounds. He was identified as 46-year-old Derrick Terrell Parks. His city of residence is unknown.

An investigation indicated the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect.
 
The altercation escalated when the suspect retrieved a firearm and shot the victim multiple times and fled the scene.
 
Through the course of the investigation detectives were able to identify 22-year-old Dakuan Thomas as a suspect in this case.
 
On Friday, a patrol officer was able to locate Thomas and take him into custody without incident. Thomas was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one count of first degree murder with a deadly weapon. 
 
This is the 46th homicide investigated by the LVMPD in 2016.
