Elton John cancels Las Vegas shows because of rare infection

Elton John has canceled upcoming shows in Las Vegas due to an "unusual bacterial infection."

The 70-year-old singer is a resident headliner for The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Canceled show dates are April 25, 26, 28, 29 and May 1, 3, 4, 5.

He reportedly contracted the illness during a tour of South America. He became violently ill during a flight home from Chile. Once he arrived in the UK, he was admitted to the hospital and spent 2 nights in intensive care. He was released April 22 and is now resting at home.

A performance on May 5 in Bakersfield, California, was also canceled. However, he is planning on performing in Twickenham, England, on June 3.

John will return to Caesars Palace in October. The specific show schedule will be announced soon.

For fans who purchased tickets with their credit cards, the money will be refunded to the credit card used for purchase. Anyone who purchased tickets with cash may present the tickets at the original point of sale for a refund.
