Delta plane diverts to Las Vegas due to mechanical problems

4:26 P.M. UPDATE: The plane landed safely at McCarran Airport around 4:15 p.m. Airport officials say it was able to taxi to the gate under its own power.

ORIGINAL STORY

An airplane on its way from San Diego to Minneapolis is being diverted to Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon due to problems with one of the plane's generators, according to McCarran Airport spokesman Michael Oram.

Delta Flight 1728 arrived in Las Vegas around 3:45 p.m. and began circling McCarran in order to burn fuel before landing.

165 people are on board. Emergency crews are at the scene as a precaution.
