A man wearing a bandana walked into a smoke shop near Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road on Valentine's Day. Police say he had a gun and a getaway driver. But he only left with a pack of cigarettes.

Surveillance video shows the would-be thief's exchange with the smoke shop's owner. You can see the suspect come inside, put the gun on the table, and demand money from the register.

The owner didn't have a gun, but he said no anyway. He shooed away the crook, refusing to hand over any money.

However, the thief didn't leave empty handed. The owner gave him a pack of cigarettes.

"From childhood, we [grew up] with guns and stuff," said the owner. "Guns [are] not something that scares us."

The owner was from Afghanistan and used to be a translator for the military.

Police are still searching for the failed thief.
