Residents of Las Vegas will no longer have to travel to other states to satisfy their craving for chicken n' dumplins, country fried steak or hashbrown casserole from the beloved Cracker Barrel restaurant.

The second Southern Nevada location on East Craig Road opened Monday, Oct. 24. The 10,000-square-foot restaurant seats 180 guests and includes a retail store.

According to Jeff Hachquet of Morgan Investments, he and another family member began courting Cracker barrell in 2007.

Hachquet is the grandson of Edward "Eddie" Morgan, who was a former pastry chef and ice carver on the Las Vegas Strip. Morgan purchased several acres of land in the mid 1960s off of a service road for Nellis Air Force Base. That road is now known as Craig Road.

In 2007 Hachquet and Patty Morgan Hachquet (Eddie's daughter) wrote a letter to Cracker Barrell, asking them to look at their land on East Craig Road as a potential location. Hachquet says that Cracker Barrel said "thanks but no thanks."

In 2014, right before the signing of a national tenant, Cracker Barrel reached out to him. Within 48 hours, a deal was in the works. Two and a half years later, the restaurant opened its doors to hungry diners.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials took place on Oct. 21.

The first location in the vally opened in July of this year near the Silverton hotel-casino. The company was founded by Dan Evans in 1969 and its first store was located in Lebanon, Tennessee. Cracker Barrel's menu is based on Southern comfort food and each location resembles an old-fashioned general store and has front porch lined with wooden rocking chairs, a stone fireplace, and decorative artifacts local to the area. There are now 641 locations in the United States.

Every year, Cracker Barrel serves more than 215 million guests, 300 million biscuits, 220 million eggs, 121 million slices of bacon, 80 million pancakes, 37 million servings of grits, and 11 million orders of chicken n' dumplins. Every location is near major road and travelers make up more than 40 percent of the company's business.
