Two pedestrians are dead after separate accidents on valley roadways Thursday evening.

"This is basically an epidemic. We are losing people every day it seems like, to auto-pedestrian accidents," said Sergeant Richard Strader of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Fatal Detail.

The first crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near Boulder Highway and Russell Road. Investigators say the pedestrian was attempting to cross six lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle traveling at the speed limit of 55 miles per hour.

The victim was pronounced dead on scene. The coroner has not yet identified the name of the deceased, but police say she was an adult female.

The driver remained on scene and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Minutes after this incident, another pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street outside of a sidewalk near Tropicana Avenue and Edmond Street. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but ultimately passed away. Police say she was a 92-year-old woman.

The driver remained on scene, was traveling under the speed limit, and was not impaired.

The deaths mark the 111th and 112th fatalities on Las Vegas roadways this year.
