LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two veteran organizations made sure retired service members in Las Vegas had a Merry Christmas Eve.

The Veterans Village held a special luncheon for 20 female veterans and their families with close to $14,000 worth of gifts given out.

"When they're in our house we are all the same. We're all one especially on the holidays," said Arnold Stalk, founder of Veterans Village.

Latasha Boyd has lived at the village for several months and was surprised when volunteers helped carry out more than ten presents to her apartment.

"My family and I moved here from Detroit. We are very grateful," Boyd said.

The Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals decided to gift the veteran women because some of them are widows or single mothers.

“They received a microwave, dishes, coffee cups, coffee maker. Their children received what they asked for too. We tried to get everyone what they wanted," said VAREP president Jimmy Vega.

Some of the family members also received video games and laptops as presents.

The event was sponsored by the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals.
