LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is not taking appointments during its lobby system upgrade.

The agency made this announcement on Wednesday as it transitions to a new lobby management system that is not yet in place.

A pilot program began in the Reno office on Monday, with installation at other offices expected to follow after a successful run in Northern Nevada.

This new vendor will provide a better system, with more available appointment options and capabilities than the previous one in place, according to the Nevada DMV.

However, the old vendor contract expired at the end of last year, and the new system is a little behind.

In the meantime, the agency suggests for customers to go directly to service windows with wait times averaging less than prior walk-in times.

Currently, the new system is on track to be rolled out in Southern Nevada, but there has been no specific timetable released at this point by the agency.
