Las Vegas breaking news for December 16, 2018

The following is a roundup of breaking news from around the Las Vegas valley.

2:42 P.M.

South Decatur Boulevard and West Desert Inn Road are closed while police investigate a crash. Two people were taken to UMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Avoid the area while police investigate.

1:30 P.M.

Las Vegas police are investigating a shooting in the 1900 block of Ferrell Street. One man was taken to UMC Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects are not in custody yet.

11:14 A.M.

A shooting that occurred at an apartment complex located on the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue, east of J Street, is being investigated by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police detectives. The male victim was transported to UMC Trauma where he was stabilized and there are no suspects in custody.

4:12 A.M.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officials report that a single vehicle fatal crash occurred on South Jones Boulevard, just north of West Sahara Avenue. According to police, the Mercedes Benz was traveling at a high rate of speed on Jones when the driver lost control of the vehicle, spun over the center median, struck a fire hydrant, causing the car to overturn, and ejecting the driver who was declared deceased at the scene. UPDATE Dec. 28: The Clark County coroner said blunt force injuries in this accident killed Cheryl Nicole Thomas, 33, of Las Vegas.
