Labor Day is Monday, September 2, and soon travelers will be hitting the road.

According to AAA, gas prices are on track to be the cheapest Labor Day weekend average in three years, so this may mean more traffic congestion.

Driving times across the country may take 10 percent longer than usual, INRIX told USA Today. In major metro areas, driving times could increase as much as 85-115 percent, said the company, who provides data and analytics on traffic and parking to agencies worldwide.

So when are the worst times to hit the road?

Thursday afternoon

According to INRIX, this is a time when commuters and travelers will be on the road at the same time, making for a lot of traffic congestion. This is the worst day and time to hit the road over Labor Day weekend and you should especially avoid being on the road from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Friday afternoon

People will be on their way out of town and traffic will be heavy, INRIX said, with 1-4 p.m. being an especially bad time to be on the road.

Monday morning

Holiday travelers will be going back home and drivers will definitely see traffic. The worst hours on this day will be 7-10 a.m.
