Family and friends are celebrating Macy's 6th birthday. But her daddy is missing from the party.

This Las Vegas police family doesn't want the spotlight to be on them. But they agreed to share honestly about what police-family life is like in the wake of Sunday's mass shooting.

"Active shooter at Mandalay, I gotta go. I love you," Officer Ray Novack's wife recalled. "I called my boys down. I said let's pray. I was just crying. I was nervous."

Turns out Officer Novack was clearing the New York New York -- making sure there wasn't another shooter. Hours later, he had a moment to text that he was safe.

"I'm glad my husband is out there. I'm glad he loves on people. He prays with people. He's compassionate. People see that in him and I know they see that from other officers too."

Both Novack boys are considering careers in law enforcement -- seeing the community's support of our officers like their dad has meant the world to them.

For now, this family -- like so many others -- will share their officer with all of us. Hoping that next year's birthday he'll help blow out the candles.
