UPDATE: Las Vegas police arrest 6 in 'Take Back the Strip!' effort Friday

UPDATE AT 11:43 P.M. 

Las Vegas police arrested six people and handed out more than a dozen tickets during a three-hour enforcement Friday.

Two of the six arrests were for cocaine possession, while the others involved misdemeanors and a felony warrant.

Officers issued 17 misdemeanor and 13 traffic citations in their crime crackdown.

They also took six homeless people to local shelters.

Las Vegas police have a new plan to make the Las Vegas Strip safer for locals and tourists. They're holding an event Friday called "Take Back the Las Vegas Strip!" which is aimed at cutting back on violent crime. 

Police will be volunteering their time to walk the strip, talking to people who are concerned about crime and assisting the homeless. 

The event comes just a few weeks after a string of casino robberies.Suspects got away with cash and chips after robbing cages and game tables at four separate casinos.Three of those casinos were on the strip. 

The event starts at 8 p.m.
