The first shooting was reported around 8:40 p.m. in the 2600 block of Van Patten Street, near Sahara Avenue and Paradise Road.

Arriving officers located a man lying on the ground outside one of the apartment buildings suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was transported to the Sunrise Trauma where he was later pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives determined there was a group of people standing outside of the building and there was a verbal altercation. At some point, a man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds, striking the victim. The shooter was gone before officers arrived.

The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County coroner.

Police said the motive appears to be a disagreement over the sale of narcotics.

The second shooting was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Sherwood Street, just about a block to the east. Another person was shot in the torso and transported to the hospital.

Initially, police thought the shootings may be related.

Anyone with information in either case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
