LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — In response to incidents of guns being confiscated at schools around the Las Vegas valley, a committee has been tasked with recommending solutions to the superintendent.

There have been 11 cases of guns confiscated on Clark County school campuses so far this year. That's just shy of the total of 13 for the entire school year in 2017.

The task force includes teachers, parents, principals, and community leaders.

Their main recommendations included having students wear IDs on lanyards so they can better identify who's supposed to be on campus. They also recommended additional police and some K-9 units that would be able to detect firearms.

While there were other solutions proposed, Superintendent Jesus Jara said these main solutions were ones that can be implemented immediately within their security budget.

Jara also said the district wants to see more counselors to invest in the social and emotional side of things - help students who may be dealing with isolation or bullying.

Parents need to play a part as well according to the district's superintendent. Jara said it's essential for them to make sure to lock up weapons for those items not to get into the hands of children.
