Storms on Sunday afternoon brought an end to a six day stretch with highs at or above 110 degrees in Las Vegas. They also delivered areas of flash flooding on the west and southwest sides of town and to Red Rock Canyon and other parts of the Spring Mountains.

Expect continued afternoon and evening storm chances in the valley today through Thursday as monsoon moisture remains in place.

Storms will get going in the mountains around midday and new storms are possible in the valley after 1 p.m. with the threat of flash flooding, brief damaging winds, and lightning. The most likely time for storms is this afternoon, although we'll watch for outside chance that organized daytime storms in Utah and Arizona could send downpours with wind and lightning toward Las Vegas this evening.

Look for a drier pattern Friday through the weekend with fewer storms (weekend storm chances will be mainly confined to the mountains).

By next week, a possible tropical system in the Pacific Ocean near Mexico could set the stage for a return of enough humidity to deliver more numerous rain and storm chances.
