Robocalls about power bills not coming from NV Energy
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A robocall making the rounds to Valley residents claims it can help you save money on your power bill. But many are questioning whether the offer is legit.
"It's very frustrating because to me it's an invasion of my privacy, you know, it's like being harassed," said Margaret Miles.
Margaret says every time the phone rings now, she hopes it isn't the same recording that's been calling for weeks.
"It's for homeowners. I'm not a homeowner number one and it says you can save 30% to 50% off your power bill," said Margaret.
The message tells people to press one if you're interested and five if you're not but no matter what button Margaret pushes, the same number keeps calling back.
She's even kept a log of what day and time the calls come in. Margaret says the one time she did talk to someone to try and get them to stop, the person hung up on her.
"I also tried to call that number back at some point in the beginning and all I got was a message saying that this person has not set up their voice mailbox yet," said Margaret.
Several viewers have emailed Action News about getting this same robocall that refers to the NV Energy's green project. So what's that about?
We reached out to NV Energy who says they don't do robocalls about their Green Power program. They're trying to figure out who is responsible.
"I'm all for saving money, who isn't especially nowadays," said Margaret,
Instead, she spent time reporting the calls to the Federal Trade Commission. She's on the Do Not Call list and is baffled as to why she's still getting robocalled.
"I just had a feeling when they called that this does not have anything to do with the power company," said Margaret.
The FTC says when you get a robocall don't press any number. They say that will just lead to more robocalls because it tells the callers that it's a live number and they'll keep calling. You can learn how to file a complaint with the FTC by clicking here.
