Party celebrates Raiders move to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - Among the many reasons some people are celebrating the Raiders move to Las Vegas is the promise of jobs.

Louis Desalvio is with Laborers Local No. 872. On Friday night, he and many of his colleagues attended a “Welcome to Las Vegas” party at PKWY Tavern's location on Flamingo Road.

Desalvio is looking forward to the day when he will be able to head to a bar or restaurant and celebrate a Raiders win -- knowing he put in a hard day’s work making the billion dollar stadium where the team will play a reality.

“We already have people that left in 2008, when the economy tanked that have reached out to us," Desalvio said.

He estimates the stadium project alone could get as many as 5,000 people back to work right away. That doesn’t include contracts for maintenance work or concessions which he says would provide thousands more jobs.

“They never wanted to leave, but they had no choice,” he said. “So, this is giving them the opportunity to come back and be where they wanted to be in the first place.”

Desalvio also believes the arrival of the NFL in Las Vegas means other sports teams will follow, providing even more future opportunities for skilled laborers.
