UNLV Runnin' Rebels plays first game of season tonight

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The University of Nevada, Las Vegas' men's basketball team will open the 2012-13 season tonight against Northern Arizona.

The Runnin' Rebels will take on the Lumberjacks at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

According to NAU's website, the game will serve as a homecoming for their new head coach Jack Murphy. He is from Las Vegas and played basketball at Durango High School. he is also the son-in-law of UNLV Athletic Director Jim Livengood.

The Runnin' Rebels are currently ranked No. 18/19 in the preseason. It is the first time they have been ranked since 1992-93.

Last week, UNLV played Division II Dixie State in a pre-season game. The Rebels narrowly beat Dixie State 81 to 80.

The game will not be broadcast on television, but it will be streamed online. The video stream and the UNLV radio broadcast will be available at UNLVRebels.com through the subscription-based All-Access feature.

Approximately 500 tickets for the game are still available. All UNLV students at Monday's game will receive a free Rebellion t-shirt, courtesy of Terrible Herbst.
