A local cancer survivor and cyclist is now working to save others.

20-year-old Michael Tatalovich, a Coronado High School graduate, is on a 70-day, 4,000-mile bike ride, one of 67 cyclists making the ride with the nonprofit Texas 4000. The organization works to spread awareness and raise money for cancer research.

He started in Austin, where he is going to school, and plans to finish in Anchorage on Aug. 12. His route also took him along Las Vegas Boulevard.

"It was surreal," Tatalovich said.
