Aviation Nation underway at Nellis Air Force Base

UPDATE NOV. 10: Aviation Nation 2017 is underway at Nellis Air Force Base. It began with a Friends and Family Day on Nov. 10. The general public will be admitted on Nov. 11 and 12.

The annual open house at Nellis Air Force Base is happening Nov. 11 and 12.

Aviation Nation 2017 will exhibit United States Air Force heritage and its accomplishments in air, space, and cyberspace. The Thunderbirds, the United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, is the headliner for the event.

Highlights and performers include Arrow Dynamics, Bill Barack's "Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car Show," Bremont Horsemen, Greg Colyer flying the T-33, Jerry "Jive" Kerby, Mike Wiskus, Red Bull's Team Chambliss, Red Bull's Skydive Team, Red Eagles, Sticky Strickland, Texas Flying Legends, USAF Air-to-Air Demo, USAF Close Air Support/Combat Search & Rescue, USAF Heritage Flight, Wings of Blue, B-2 flyover (Saturday only), C-47 from Palm Springs Air Museum and a F-22 demo.

The U.S. Air Force is celebrating is 70th birthday this year during the event. This year's theme is "American Airmen: Breaking Barriers since 1947."

Admission is free. Buses for the general public will begin running at 9 a.m. both days from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Buses will stop taking guests to the event at 1 p.m. and the event gates will close at 5 p.m. Guests are advised to get to the speedway early.

An upgraded experience is also available. The Lightning Chalet will provide guests with private seating, fans and front-row viewing of the Thunderbirds staging area.

 A ticket to the Chalet also comes with coffee and light breakfast snacks from 10 to 11 a.m., a private bar including complimentary beer and wine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a full lunch buffet, and afternoon snacks. There’s limited capacity in the Chalet, but guests can purchase their tickets ahead of time to guarantee a spot. 

Adult tickets are $139 before Nov. 9 and $149 after Nov. 9. Tickets for children ages 4 to 9 are $59. Children under the age of 3 will be admitted free. You can purchase tickets here.
